AltaMed Health Services recently launched Season 2 of an originally produced, serialized telenovela about HIV/AIDS called “Sin Vergüenza” (“Without Shame”). The award-winning and nationally recognized telenovela is a three-episode (English and Spanish) series that addresses what happens to an East Los Angeles family after receiving an HIV diagnosis. “Sin Vergüenza,” which first aired in 2012, was created to reduce HIV stigma and shame, and increase awareness on the importance of HIV testing and treatment. Season 2 of Sin Verguenza continues the story of the Salazars, a fictional Mexican-American family living in East Los Angeles. The first season’s theme was “the only shame is living a lie,” with the goal of encouraging viewers to seek HIV testing, while the second season’s theme addresses the dilemma of confronting those lies. It also features ways to obtain HIV medical care, treatment and emotional support.
